Barley Lane School is absolutely thrilled to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious School Games Mark – Gold Award!

This respected, government-led accolade, overseen by the Youth Sport Trust since 2012, recognises schools that show outstanding commitment to competitive sport, accessible opportunities, youth leadership, and physical activity both for their own students and across the wider community.

To achieve Gold, Barley Lane excelled in delivering high participation—ensuring every pupil benefits from quality PE and extracurricular sport—organising regular in-school and inter-school competitions across a range of abilities, and promoting leadership by involving students in officiating and event planning roles. They also worked closely with local coaches and clubs, boosting their workforce development and establishing meaningful partnerships .

This achievement highlights the school's unwavering focus on making sport inclusive, engaging, and developmental—building teamwork, confidence, and healthy habits in every child. Everyone at Barley Lane—from pupils and parents to staff and PE leaders—is filled with pride and excitement as they look ahead to next year’s challenge…perhaps even Platinum!
