School Uniform

The following ‘Dress Code’ applies to all pupils and all Staff & Governors at Barley Lane School.

Pupils – We supply a black school fleece, sweatshirt and collared t-shirt at a subsidised affordable cost of around £35
for all as a starter pack. We ask parents and carers to provide black or dark grey trousers or tracksuit bottoms and black shoes or trainers that are black. Black shorts can be worn in the summer term. Black or white non branded t-shirts and collared t-shirts can also be worn. These items can be purchased in the schools reception.

Coats, hats and hoodies are not part of the school uniform – whilst they may be worn on the journey to school, they
must be removed upon arrival.

All clothing / footwear must:
• look presentable
• be safe (no dangerous parts, i.e. steel toecaps, etc.)
• be clean
• fit well
• be appropriately functional for the weather / season
• be appropriate for the time of day (i.e. no pyjamas / ‘onesies’ / nightwear / slippers to be worn around school during the school day, etc.)

Clothing / footwear MUST NOT:
• be revealing / indecent / have any potential sexual connotations (whether intentional or not)
• display inappropriate pictures / logos / messages (i.e. drugs, extremist viewpoints, sexual comments, swear words, etc.)

STAFF & GOVERNORS
In addition to the ‘Students’ list above, Staff & Governors are also expected to adhere to the national standard dress codes and norms that would usually be applied to the various professional roles that they undertake, e.g.
• T&L staff dress in a smart professional manner appropriate to the lessons being delivered
• RCW staff in a more casual manner more suited to a ‘homely’ pastoral environment
• Support & other staff in accordance with the requirements of their respective duties

Never look down on anybody unless you are helping him up.  Jesse Jackson
